Sago cake oven. Made in recent historical times in Seram, Buru, Ambon, Haruku, Saparua, Nusalaut, Manipa, Buano; Ternate, Tidore, Bacan, Sula and Halmahera in the north Moluccas; the Seram Laut archipelago, Gorom, Manawoka, Teor, to a lesser extent Banda and the Kei islands and parts of the western part of Indonesian Papua, as far east as Teluk Cendrawasih. Slab built (most) or from cut-outs of clay (excavation). Flat bottom (most) - some pedestal bottoms- some rounder bottoms (Japen Island). Different forms in different villages. Most plain but some decorated (Buru, Seram, Aru). Made by women. Start time unknown, likely before 1100 BP.
