New Ireland cherty feldspathic

Well sorted, fine-grained, subrounded to subangular plagioclase (both fresh volcanic plagioclase and cloudy albite); strongly pleochroic brown hornblende, clinopyroxene, biotite, and oxyhornblende; and fine-grained rock (polycrystalline lithic) fragments including microlitic volcanic rock, metavolcanic felsite, and cherty (microcrystalline quartz) grains of metasedimentary or metavolcanic origin. Hornblende and oxyhornblende.

Fabric Class:

Feldspathic Igneous-Amphibolic: Dominated by feldspar inclusions, with igneous lithics and amphiboles.

Andesitic Arc: Dominated by andesite and basalt lithic fragments, with microlitic, felsitic and vitric textures, and the andesite minerals (plagioclase, clinopyroxene and sometimes hornblende).
