Efate pyroxenic placer

Pyroxenic Efate placer sand temper (PEPT). Plagioclase feldspar mineral grains, clinopyroxene mineral grains, and opaque iron oxide grains. Microlitic fragments, in which birefringent plagioclase microlites are embedded in tan to brown volcanic glass; felsitic fragments, composed of microgranular quartz-feldspar mosaics formed by devitrification of felsic volcanic glass, and vitric fragments of tan to brown (or red) volcanic glass.

Fabric Class:

Igneous Feldspathic: Dominated by igneous lithic inclusions with feldspars.

Andesitic Arc: Dominated by andesite and basalt lithic fragments, with microlitic, felsitic and vitric textures, and the andesite minerals (plagioclase, clinopyroxene and sometimes hornblende).
