Samoan lithic

Contains sherds with a range of olivine to pyroxene ratios. Some sherds, hybrid calcareous with reef debris and basaltic rock sands.

Fabric Class:

Igneous Olivine: Dominated by igneous lithic inclusions with olivines.

Oceanic Basalt: Mainly contain olivines, clinopyroxenes and plagioclase, and have lathwork and mafic vitric lithic fragments.

Coarse temper. May also contain trachyitic lithics (feldspathic basalts). Trachytic feldspathic basalt probably derive from Fagaloa Volcanics.

Decorated sherd. Oxidised. Olivine is altered to iddingsite. Less olivine than pyroxene. Picritic basalt fragments with reddish glass. Tuff.
