Sherd 22/1 from Sio (PNG). Slide IL_1_55 from I Lilley. x4 Magnification PPL (left) XPL (right). Scale bar: 0.5mm. High resolution image in VIMIPO. Imaged by K. Hardy and M. Leclerc, ANU.

Sio style. CAUTION: Section less than 30microns. Pyroxene grains (10%) range in size from 0.1 up to 0.7 mm in length. Quartz and feldspar grains (<10%) range from less than 0.1 up to 0.2 mm in length. There are some hypocrystalline volcanic rock fragments which contain large pyroxene crystals set in a ground mass of smaller pyroxene crystals, plagioclase, opaques and altered glass. The sherd also contains trace amounts of iron oxide and carbonate shell fragments.
