WD_53_6

Anatom12_62_2 Anatom12_62_2
Sherd 12-62-2 from Aneityum (Aneityum). Slide WD_53_6 from Dickinson Collection, Bishop Museum. x4 Magnification PPL (left) XPL (right). Scale bar: 0.5mm. High resolution image or full slide in VIMIPO (user: Guest pwd: Guest). Imaged by K. Hardy and M. Leclerc, ANU.

Opaque iron oxide grains, and vitric volcanic rock fragments composed of mafic sideromelane (basaltic glass). The calcareous grains are skeletal and micritic (pelletal) debris of modern reefal origin, and the calcareous aggregates are well sorted sands with textures appropriate for a beach origin.

WD_53_13

Anatom12_82 Anatom12_82
Sherd 12-82 from Aneityum (Aneityum). Slide WD_53_13 from Dickinson Collection, Bishop Museum. x4 Magnification PPL (left) XPL (right). Scale bar: 0.5mm. High resolution image in VIMIPO (user: Guest pwd: Guest). Imaged by K. Hardy and M. Leclerc, ANU.

Olivine placer sand. Clinopyroxene dominant, but minor orthopyroxene.

WD_53_4

AnatomA2 AnatomA2
Sherd A2 from Aneityum (Aneityum). Slide WD_53_4 from Dickinson Collection, Bishop Museum. x4 Magnification PPL (left) XPL (right). Scale bar: 0.5mm. High resolution image in VIMIPO (user: Guest pwd: Guest). Imaged by K. Hardy and M. Leclerc, ANU.

Olivine placer sand.

WD_53_3

Also called SVMAP118. Basaltic sand temper.

WD_57_6

62-2 has a full slide scan available (user: Guest pwd: Guest). Imaged by K. Hardy and M. Leclerc, ANU.

Plagioclase-rich non-placer temper. Stream origin. Non-Lapita.

WD_57_5

Ifo62_1 Ifo62_1
Sherd 62-1 from Ifo (Erromango). Slide WD_57_5 from Dickinson Collection, Bishop Museum. x4 Magnification PPL (left) XPL (right). Scale bar: 0.5mm. High resolution image in VIMIPO (user: Guest pwd: Guest). Imaged by K. Hardy and M. Leclerc, ANU.

Lapita sherd. Plagioclase-rich non-placer. Calcareous grains appear to be reworked limeclasts, rather than modern reef detritus. Stream origin.

WD_57_8

Ifo62_4 Ifo62_4
Sherd 62-4 from Ifo (Erromango). Slide WD_57_8 from Dickinson Collection, Bishop Museum. x4 Magnification PPL (left) XPL (right). Scale bar: 0.5mm. High resolution image or full slide in VIMIPO with higher exposure. Imaged by K. Hardy and M. Leclerc, ANU.

A pyroxene-rich (plagioclase-poor and lithic-poor) placer. Stream origin.
